If you haven’t already seen 360 degree videos, they are amazing. I’m going to explain what they are, how to make them, and why they are awesome for your bar.
If you were to google “360° Video”, a bunch of them will come up. I recommend that you do because you’d have a blast playing around with these. These videos capture everything in the surrounding area from which they are taken. That means up and down, left and right, front and back. When you watch one of these videos using either YouTube’s or Facebook’s app, your phone becomes the camera angle. In other words, when you push play on the video and are holding the phone right in front of you, that’s the starting angle. Then, if you were to move the phone to the left, right, up, down, or even move around in the opposite direction, you can see all around as if you were standing in the room and operating the camera.
These videos are fantastic. Imagine if you had a video like this made in the middle of your dance floor, or what if you had one of these 360° cameras placed beside your DJ? This would essentially allow the viewer to be inside of your bar or club and experience it. I’ve seen so many videos done in this fashion, and they are absolutely phenomenal.
As for the length of these videos, I always say shorter is better when it comes to social media. Many of us have very short attention spans, and typically, we don’t have a lot of time on our hands. We live in a noisy world, and there’s always so much work to get done. No one has the time to watch long videos, or read long article. In this scenario, you should make your videos a couple of minutes long at the most. There aren’t many scenarios where you would want to would need to create a 10 or 20 minute 360° Video. No one is going to pay attention for that long pretending to be in the middle of a dance floor.
People are going to watch your videos and play around with this new feature. Then, they are going to move on, but that’s all you need. You just need to draw some attention to your brand with this. Give them a cool experience for a minute or two so that they have a smile on their face and then remember your bar. They will attach that experience with your brand, and they will think you’re awesome. Mission accomplished.
How do you make these 360° Videos anyway? You’ll need a special 360° camera. You can’t do it with your regular generic camera or even your smartphone camera. You can get one of these cameras on Amazon, eBay, and most likely your local video store as well. On average, they cost around $400 or $500. It’s not that big of a deal. A lot of them are WiFi enabled as well, so you can send the video back to your laptop if you need to.
The way this special type of camera works is that it has multiple camera heads that record simultaneously. So, what you are going to wind up with is a video that allows people to seem like they are in the room experiencing everything around them. You make it seem like they are in the middle of your dance floor or attending one of your events, for example. You’ll want to give them just enough of a taste so that they want more.
Again, one great way you can film is to string one of these cameras from the ceiling, but not low enough that anyone can grab it, but do want to let the camera hang down enough to make the viewer feel like they are in the middle of the crowd. Obviously, nothing is ever going to beat attending a concert live or having a great night out at the club. You’re not going to want to record the entire night, the whole band or DJ’s performance, or anything like that. People want to be there, and nothing is going to beat the sound and lights of attending an event live. You just want to give them a little bit of a feeling that’s going to make sure they get down there or not miss the event next time.
A 360° Video is a much cooler, more advanced version of your typical video, and it makes the experience much more real since the viewer can move around with the camera. It makes the viewer feel like they are the one with the video camera, and they can turn around and check out whatever they want to as though they were really there.
You always want to find cool tools that you can use to stay ahead of your competition, and there’s always going to be better ways to advertise and get your messages across. This is just another way to one-up the guys down the street, so to speak, or one-up yourself and stay ahead in your business. This particular tool, however, is one-upping everything right now. Not very many people are using this type of camera yet. A lot of people just don’t know about it yet, or haven’t realized the value in it.
Don’t let yourself get intimidated by the investment or the technology involved in advertising your business this way. It’s not really that hard to edit these videos, and you can learn a lot by googling the topic. Another great way to gain input into how to use these videos is to watch a few of these 360° Videos yourself and take note of what other people have done. Most likely, after viewing a few of these videos, you’ll be excited about making these for your venue as well.
If I have any advice to give, it’s this: You should think about the things that others could do which would put you out of business and start implementing those things yourself. That’s the kind of mentality that’s going to give you the ability to stay ahead of everyone else. These types of videos aren’t something that you’ll want to produce every single day, but if you get the hang of it, you might find yourself making one a week. There’s definitely nothing wrong with that.
